HTML5

HTML5 is the version of HTML, which stands for Hypertext Markup Language used to create web pages. This fifth revision of the HTML standard aims to enhance the language's capacity to handle multimedia and other advanced features while remaining compatible with older web browsers.

It has introduced semantic tags and attributes to facilitate the development of more elaborate web pages and web apps with rich multimedia content (e.g. audio or video) without additional browser plugins or third-party software. It's also added innovative tools for building responsive web pages that adjust to various screen sizes and devices.

HTML5 gives developers versatile and effective tools for developing mobile-friendly, multimedia-rich, and reliable web applications. It has native support for multimedia content, presenting developers with a more straightforward way to incorporate it into web pages without third-party plugins or software. It is also mobile-friendly, so developers can now easily produce cross-platform web apps with a responsive design that adjusts to various screen sizes and devices. It also provides performance augmentation, including faster rendering for web pages, enhanced caching, and decreased served load, leading to shorter loading times and better user experience. Additionally, HTML5 brings innovative features and tags that streamline coding, letting developers create web pages and apps more effortlessly than ever before. The semantic tags, for example, facilitate structuring content, enhancing accessibility and search engine optimisations of web pages. Finally, it introduced more security features (e.g. restricting access to certain web pages or resources), an upgrade for web application security.

Remember to structure your content with semantic HTML5 tags. Semantic tags (e.g. <header>, <nav>, <main>, <section>, and <footer>) can boost the accessibility and search engine optimisation of your web pages, making them more user-friendly and easier to find. For audio and video content, choose HTML5 multimedia tags. HTML5 natively supports audio and video content – when you use the <audio> and <video> tags on your website, you can streamline playing and interacting with multimedia content for the users. For input fields, utilise HTML5 form elements. It introduced a number of fresh form elements, including <input type= "email">, <input type= "tel">, and <input type=" date">, that help users enter data on your website while also offering additional validation and formatting options.

As for the don'ts, avoid using outdated HTML tags or attributes. In HTML5, some older HTML tags and attributes are deactivated. Contemporary web browsers may no longer support them, so use the most recent tags and attributes for the best compatibility and performance. You also should be careful when using HTML5 features that aren't supported by all browsers. While HTML5 is built to be backwards compatible with older web browsers, not all of them support all new features, so you should provide a fallback for unsupported browsers. To achieve the best compatibility, test your web pages in multiple browsers.

HTML is widely used in web development, and HTML5 gives developers more powerful and versatile tools than before.
