Through four strategic research rounds, we uncovered the real challenges behind managing a tattoo business in the digital age.

Discovery research

Through interviews with 21 tattoo artists and 6 studio managers, we diagnosed their digital pain points. The research revealed professionals juggling scattered apps for different tasks—from session scheduling to client communication. These insights defined four user segments and the app's foundation.

Concept testing
(mid-fi)

We used discovery insights to create user stories, roadmap, and MVP plan. Once we prepared the app's concept, we conducted usability tests on the first interactive prototype to clarify core features and improve the user experience.

Shop module testing (hi-fi)

Testing the high-fidelity prototype allowed us to fine-tune the shopping experience based on real user feedback. We made shopping smoother and more intuitive ensuring artists could find what they needed without disrupting their creative flow.

Studio module testing (hi-fi)

We tested session scheduling, client management, and studio operations to ensure seamless integration into artists' daily workflows. The result? A unified platform that replaced several scattered apps instead of adding another one.

More than just a shop

Kwadron didn’t want just another e-commerce app cluttering their clients’ devices. They needed a tool that artists and studio managers would rely on daily – not just for shopping, but for managing their workflow.

Finding the standout feature

Plenty of apps help with tattoo studio management or supply shopping. The challenge was to create something distinct: an app that seamlessly serves all customer segments. Instead of choosing between studio management or shopping, Kwadron’s app does both.

The biggest challenge? Integrating everything into one app without disrupting users’ natural workflow. The solution? A platform that blends e-commerce, studio management, and client communication in a way that feels familiar and effortless.

The right words for
the right strokes

Great UX writing isn’t just about clarity - it’s about making every interaction effortless and on-brand. For Kwardon, that meant balancing playful, relatable, friendly language with knowledgeable expertise.

We infused personality into microcopy like error messages and success screens whilst keeping core navigation straightforward. The app needed to navigate two distinct worlds: e-commerce shopping and studio management, so we used different terminology for each experience to avoid confusion. Our UX writer collaborated closely with designers to ensure seamless integration, refining copy to fit components perfectly or adjusting layouts when important messages needed more visibility.

The result? An app that feels approachable yet professional, with words that enhance rather than complicate the user experience.

Sketching the
perfect interface

Kwadron’s clients are artists first, business owners second. Managing bookings, staying connected with clients, and tracking supplies meant juggling scattered apps, sticky notes, and endless DMs. Design challenge? Creating an interface that enhances their creative workflow without adding friction or complexity to their artistic process.

All-in-one tool

Instead of forcing artists to adapt to rigid software, we made the app adapt to their workflow. We combined shopping, studio management, and client communication into one seamless tool that fits naturally into their daily rhythm without overwhelming users.

Frictionless shopping flow

Through iterative testing, we simplified product categories and streamlined navigation. We created smart features like bulk ordering modals and session-linked restocking reminders, helping artists maintain their supplies without disrupting their creative focus.

Smarter client onboarding

User research revealed that artists struggled with scattered client communications across social platforms. We built an integrated system that centralises client information, appointment history, and communication, eliminating the chaos of lost DMs and forgotten details.

Testing-driven refinements

Multiple testing phases revealed crucial user behaviour patterns that shaped our final design. A/B testing on key flows and usability sessions helped us prioritise navigation improvements and eliminate friction points slowing down daily workflows.

Sleek, dark, and
undeniably Kwadron

Kwadron’s brand is bold, futuristic, and unapologetically modern—so the app’s UI had to match. We created a sleek, sci-fi-inspired interface with dark aesthetics, neon accents, and glowing elements that align with the brand while keeping the app intuitive and functional for daily studio use.

Futuristic, but functional

We drew inspiration from high-tech innovations, blending dark mode aesthetics with neon contrasts and sleek gradients. This wasn’t just about looks; dark mode reduces eye strain during long studio sessions and fits naturally into the tattoo industry’s underground, artistic vibe.

Touch-friendly & accessible

Real-world studio environments demanded practical design decisions. We ensured consistent touch zones for smooth mobile interactions, high-contrast elements for readability in dimly lit studios, and streamlined UI patterns to reduce cognitive load during busy sessions.

Scalable design foundation

We built a flexible, component-based design system to maintain consistency and speed up future development. Our structured approach organised colours, typography, and spacing into reusable components, enabling faster iteration and seamless scalability.

Brand-first visual language

The interface reflects Kwardon’s precision-focused identity through celan geometries, purposeful animations, and carefully crafted micro-interactions. Every visual element reinforces their reputation for quality while ensuring the app feels premium and professional.
