UX Audit and Heuristic Evaluation

Great user experience demands deep and comprehensive research of your target users. And there is no better way to do it than UX Audits and Heuristic evaluation.

What is
UX Audit and
Heuristic Evaluation?

UX Audit and Heuristic Evaluation are two methods used in user experience design to assess and improve the usability of digital products like websites or applications.

Heuristic evaluation is based on Nielsen's heuristics – a set of general principles for interface design. The heuristics are so-called "mental shortcuts" that help users understand the perceived interface without analysing its elements.

Heuristic analysis involves the evaluation of the interface and its operation based on guidelines related to usability, user experience, and graphic design (based on, among others, Nielsen and Molich's heuristics and WCAG 2.0 guidelines).

Optimize your interfaces
with UX Audit and
Heuristic Evaluation

Heuristic Analysis and UX Audit are vital tools in optimising user interfaces, offering a range of benefits. These methodologies combine scientific insights and expert evaluations to enhance the usability and appeal of digital products. Here are some key benefits they bring to the table:

Expert evaluation based on established knowledge

We conduct a heuristic analysis by using a scientific research, particularly in cognitive psychology, ensuring an authoritative assessment of the interface. This method offers credible evaluations, providing insights that are more than just subjective opinions.

Solid recommendations for improvement

The outcome of the analysis is a set of practical, implementable recommendations tailored to enhance the interface's usability. These solutions are organised by priority and difficulty level, aiding clients in effectively planning and executing improvements.

Enhanced user experience and satisfaction

Implementing these recommendations makes the interface more intuitive and user-friendly. That leads to a significant improvement in the user experience. As a result, there is an increase in user satisfaction, which often translates into greater user engagement and loyalty.

Our Approach to
UX Audit and Heuristic
Evaluation

We have developed a specialised approach to UX audit and heuristic evaluation that is both comprehensive and detail-oriented, ensuring high-quality results for our clients. It’s based on five pillars which we described below:

  • Foundation in Nielsen's Heuristics

The process begins with Nielsen's 10 Heuristics, which form the core of our evaluation methodology. These heuristics provide a structured framework for assessing the usability and effectiveness of a user interface, whether it's for a platform, website, or application.

  • Expert-led evaluations

During the audit, our UX consultants engage with these heuristics. This involves (besides a checklist approach) nuanced application of these principles to support their analysis and findings. Our experts' opinions and assessments are always backed up by extensive knowledge and understanding of UX principles.

  • Integrating accessibility guidelines

A key aspect of our approach is the incorporation of the latest WCAG 2.1 guidelines. This ensures that our evaluations consider the principles of accessibility and readability, particularly from the perspective of users with disabilities. We believe that an inclusive design is not just a compliance requirement but a critical component of excellent UX.

  • Holistic assessment of usability and UX

By combining our expert knowledge with Nielsen's heuristics and the principles laid out in WCAG 2.1, we provide a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the user interface. This involves evaluating its usability, accessibility, and overall experience.

  • Detailed reporting and actionable recommendations

When the evaluation is done, we compile our findings into a detailed report. This report outlines the strengths and weaknesses identified during the audit and provides specific, actionable recommendations. These suggestions are made to enhance the user experience and improve the interface's effectiveness and accessibility.
